Clifford A. Wells
Clifford Allen Wells of Wiscasset, Maine was born in 1940 in Everett, Washington. Clifford died April 12, 2018.
His parents became Alaska homesteaders when he was 12 years old and he graduated from the University of Alaska in 1964 as an electrical engineer and a member of the U.S. Army ROTC. On the day of graduation, Clifford was sworn into the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey by the Postmaster General of Alaska as the first Alaskan resident to join the survey, which is now known as NOAA, whose responsibility is to survey the United States coastlines as well as it possessions.
Following the service, Clifford worked with the design of components of nuclear submarines, such as “steering and diving” as well as sonar equipment for placement on submarines, in Groton, Connecticut. Clifford earned his MBA from Indiana University in Fort Wayne, Indiana where he worked as production manager of sonar equipment for nuclear submarines. Prior to retirement, Clifford served as financial contractor for many U.S. Navy contracts in Southern Maryland.
Clifford leaves his wife of 51 years, three adult children, two daughters-in-law and one son-in-law, and 10 grandchildren to whom he was very devoted.
