Bettinson works to be exhibited at Holocaust & Human Rights Center
Mathias Fine Art is pleased to announce that David Greenham, associate director of the Holocaust & Human Rights Center in Augusta, has selected 19 images of Brenda Bettinson’s new series of paintings “Lest We Forget” to be exhibited and featured at the Michael Klar Center, University of Maine at Augusta during the day-long seminar “Maine in WW1” on Friday, Nov. 16.
The seminar (free to teachers, students, historians and life-long learners) begins at 8:30 a.m. and will end at 4:30 p.m. Further seminar info is available at: https://hhrcmaine.org/wwiseminar.
An article on Bettinson’s recent work by art critic and poet Carl Little was published in the July/August edition of Art New England.
Executed in an emotional and powerful manner,“Lest We Forget,” semi-abstract in style, speak to us of the devastation wreaked on populations and landscapes by total war. In a technique that is uniquely her own, Bettinson has created impasto surfaces, which seem to grasp at the light falling upon them. The color, subtle even when strident, is harmonious and never jarring.
Mathias Fine Art is at 10 Mathias Drive in Trevett. For more information on the Bettinson and the gallery, visit http://www.mathiasfineart.com.
