Maine Photography Show: Call for 2019 entries
Attention photographers of Maine! Acceptance of entries for the 2019 Maine Photography Show (MPS) begins Saturday, Dec. 1 through the stroke of midnight Jan. 18, 2019. MPS has been the annual premier juried gallery show of photography in Maine (year 14 in 2019) with over 300 participants in the past years.
The categories: Black & White, Color, Student ( 18 and under and may choose any theme or style that best defines their skill) and Infrared (the special 2019 category). To be eligible, shutterbugs must be full or part-time residents of Maine. No original art will be accepted.
All entry photos must be in jpeg format and must be submitted digitally. A 300 dpi resolution is suggested with the widest dimension 1800 pixels. Entries must be submitted using the entry form at https://mainephotographyshow.org. Entry fee: $10 per photo. All work must be for sale.
More about the special category — Infrared: the human eye is incapable of seeing infrared light, so infrared photography can produce images with very interesting visual effects. There are multiple ways to create Infrared visual effect of your images. The best but most costly way certainly is to have a camera converted for IR shooting. However, in many cases, you may be able to use an IR filter (unless you have a camera model that blocks IR light). One of the main drawbacks here is very long exposure times. There is also software available for simulating IR effects on existing regular images.
For more inspiration about shooting in Infrared and about the show’s juror, Ron Rostenstock, visit his website: www.ronrosenstock.com.
His view of the world developed from his correspondence with Ansel Adams, his work in study groups from 1967 to 1973 with his teacher Minor White and his time as a private student of Paul Caponigro. His work has been exhibited in more than 100 shows worldwide and is featured in numerous permanent exhibitions including the Fogg Art Museum, the Worcester Art Museum, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the International Center of Photography.
Ron has published six books of his photographs and written numerous articles on the art and craft of photography. Ron still continues to exhibit his work, most recently at The National Museum of Iceland, lectures at camera clubs and professional organizations and serves as a Board member of NANPA (The North American Nature Photography Association). He also leads tours around the world for professional and amateur photographers including Bhutan, Iceland, Italy, Morocco, New Zealand, Greenland and Cuba. He especially enjoys his tours to Ireland where he maintains a home and Vinalhaven, Maine which has been a vacation spot for him for many years.
Photographers of accepted work will be notified by mail with further instructions on where and when to deliver the originals for exhibition.
