Training is being offered again to local restaurants, bars, and stores this February to prevent underage drinking and over consumption. Healthy Lincoln County and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office are working together to provide this Responsible Beverage Server (RBS) training.

Training will be offered on Tuesday, Feb. 26 at the Penalty Box in Damariscotta. Advanced registration through Healthy Lincoln County is required by calling 563-1330. The training costs $15 per person and is valid for three years. Participants must present a state-issued photo ID at the time of training.

RBS is a state approved training program that covers Maine’s liquor liability act, how to prevent visibly intoxicated patrons from driving, how to identify minors to prevent underage sales, and much more.

“A lot of business owners are unsure how they can prevent youth substance use in their town, and sending their staff to the RBS training is a great action step for them. The training is low cost, and it provides their staff with the tools to confidently refuse sales to minors“, says Jess Breithaupt of Healthy Lincoln County.

Youths may sometimes access alcohol through friends or family, or they may access it through restaurants and convenience stores. There are more opportunities for them to access alcohol during sporting events, and around holidays that promote heavy drinking like St. Patrick’s Day.

Healthy Lincoln County is available as a resource to business owners and community members interested in learning more about the risks of alcohol consumption and detecting impairment in the workplace.
