UPDATED: WES principal takes job at Falmouth Elementary
UPDATE: Thursday evening, Wiscasset Elementary School Principal Stacy White emailed the Wiscasset Newspaper a response to its questions after her resignation at the end of the school year appeared on the school committee's May 14 agenda.
White's email reply shares her plans and reflects on her time in Wiscasset. It follows in its entirety:
"I will be forever grateful to the Wiscasset School Committee for giving me the opportunity to serve the students and families of Wiscasset over the past two years. Leaving Wiscasset was certainly not an easy decision. Wiscasset Elementary is my home away from home, and the staff and students of WES will always hold a special place in my heart.
"I have accepted a position in Falmouth, as K-2 principal of Falmouth Elementary School. My nomination was approved by the Falmouth School Committee on Monday, May 6. I begin July 1.
"Over the past two years the staff and parents of the Wiscasset Elementary community have worked side by side with me to create and promote a safe, respectful, transparent learning environment for all students. I am confident I am leaving WES a better place than I found it, because of the tireless work of an exceptional group of people, who always put students first. I will miss the students the most - saying goodbye will be difficult, to say the least.
"My wish is for the students and staff of Wiscasset Elementary to always remember the following: 'Walk with the dreamers, the believers, the courageous, the cheerful, the planners, the doers, the successful people with their heads in the clouds and their feet on the ground. Let their spirit ignite a fire within you to leave this world better than when you found it.' ~Wilferd Peterson"
Also Thursday night, School Committee Chair Michael Dunn responded to a request for comment: "The Wiscasset School Committee was sorry to hear that Stacy has decided to go elsewhere. We do wish her the best of luck in her new position. We are confident that Terry (Superintendent Wood) will find the right candidate to help us continue to move the Wiscasset School system forward, with higher academic achievement and financial sustainability."
Original post: Elementary School Principal Stacy White’s resignation at the end of the school year is on the school committee’s agenda for Tuesday night. The school department’s central office released the agenda Thursday afternoon.
The department’s administrative assistant Stacey Souza said White has not turned in a resignation letter, but that White said her resignation could go on the agenda. The meeting follows the 6 p.m. school budget validation referendum in the Wiscasset Middle High School gym.
The Wiscasset Newspaper is seeking comment from White on her plans. Also under resignations, the agenda lists WMHS STEM teacher Jesse Hinman and WMHS math and science teacher Neal Goldberg, both at the end of the year.
