Tai Chi and Qigong health benefits: Cognition
Tai chi and qigong have health benefits above and beyond physical functioning. Studies show this gentle form of exercise also boosts brain health. When engaged in the moving meditation of tai chi and qigong, we are using multiple areas of our brain at one time to plan, sequence and execute precise movements. In doing so, we create a state of intense focus or mindfulness that creates an environment in our brain where learning, memory and “executive functioning” (a group of thinking skills that includes planning, attention, problem solving and verbal reasoning) can thrive.
