Open Studio & Sale features five contemporary makers
Furniture designer/maker Eben Blaney has gathered five fine craftspeople for a three-day show at his Edgecomb Studio and Showroom at 96 Eddy Road, July 12-14. The Opening Night Reception is on Friday, July 12 from 5-8 p.m., Saturday, July 13 noon to 6 p.m. and on Sunday, July 14 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
After several years of traveling to select craft and design shows to display, promote and sell his furniture, including both the Smithsonian and Philadelphia Museum Craft shows the past two years, Blaney decided it was time to take some time – off. It’s easier to concentrate on some of his larger commissions and to explore new creative work/designs when he’s in studio.
“A large ingredient of this transition for me is to focus on promoting and welcoming those interested into my new showroom where I’m able to display far more of my work than at a show,” Blaney said.
“Sharing the space with other talented makers whose work I admire was a no-brainer and feels like a good, fun, way to help foster and promote the local community of makers and introduce our works to both visitors and residents of the area. I hope to do this again and feature a variety of other makers in the future.”
To that end Blaney has invited the following.
Lisa & Scott Cylinder Studio Art Jewelry & Objects - Brunswick – www.LisaAndScottCylinder.com

“We often incorporate found objects into our mixed-media jewelry and table objects. Our work is in numerous Museum and private collections, as well as in more than a dozen books,” said Lisa. For example, "Crowned Seahorse Brooch" is made from vintage saxophone keys, sterling silver, brass, epoxy resin, enamel paint. 4.25" tall with moveable tail.

The majority of the guest makers’ work will be displayed and for sale on the main floor of the building in the woodworking shop. Blaney says some of the artisans themselves will be on hand to speak with visitors about their work. Blaney’s furniture will be on display in the upstairs showroom, which looks down, from a loft-end opening, to the space below. He plans to have select works from some of the other makers interspersed in his showroom and in the hall and staircase leading up.
An additional artist Blaney invited is ceramicist Lari Washburn ~ www.lariwashburn.com whose ceramics he’s admired for some time. Lari has been focusing more on artwork on canvas as of late, so expect to see oneor two of her paintings as well.
With Eben Blaney Fine Contemporary Furniture just three miles from Watershed, where Salad Days will be happening, it’s another event people can visit featuring local, handmade, fine crafts in a nearby working studio and showroom!
