Set For Success Aug. 11 at WES
On Sunday, Aug. 11, from 1 to 3 p.m., the Wiscasset Elementary School cafeteria will be humming with excitement. Feed Our Scholars welcomes any child in classes pre-k to grade 5 attending Wiscasset Elementary, or home-schooled children who would be enrolled there, to join in the celebration of the upcoming school year. A parent or guardian must attend with their child while the student is given a cheery red pack and the teacher-required school supplies for his or her class. Free haircuts, face painting, gently used children’s clothing closet, Parents in Education group’s Popsicle snack, and community organization informational tables will round out the day’s offerings.
Open to everyone regardless of financial situation, the emphasis is on celebrating and supporting our children. Feed Our Scholars is doing the shopping for people, but if any want to help defray those costs, the group welcomes all donations, small or large. Send tax deductible contributions to Feed Our Scholars, St. Philip’s Church, 12 Hodge St., Wiscasset, ME 04578, with Set for Success in the memo line.
Also needed is a group of volunteers to help the event run smoothly. On Saturday, Aug. 10, from noon until complete, the group will set up and organize the space. On Sunday, Aug. 11, from 1 to 3 p.m., it’s show time. From 3 p.m. until finished, clean, pack up and tidy space as if nothing had ever happened there. If anyone is interested in helping, please call St. Philip’s Church at 882-7184, leaving a message and return number for Mary Coventry, Set for Success chairperson.
