Holiday art show at Kefauver
The “Little Holiday” art show, at the Kefauver Studio & Gallery, Damariscotta, features multiple guest artists exhibiting work in many mediums.
Boothbay artist Wendy Bellows is an oil painter and a fiber artist. She has contributed two pieces of fiber art to this show, woven from linen and “cottolin” – a 60/40 blend of cotton and linen. One of the pieces has gold metal woven into the cloth.
Bellows says, “These were designed to be towels, but many people use them as table linens. I've been weaving for nearly 10 years, since inheriting my mother's floor loom. Since then, I've also become involved in hand-spinning, knitting, hooking, and felting.”
We asked Bellows about how weaving compares to painting and she replied, “Since weaving design is an exercise in color and texture relationships, painting relates very well. Painting helps to develop my awareness of those relationships, and allows for easy experimentation. Both arts are really great fun!”
In addition to Bellows’ work, the show includes artists Jane Bowman, Patti Bradley, Wolfgang Busse, Sandra Leinonen Dunn, the late Steve Dunn, Bruce Habowski, Kim Jespersen, Justine Kefauver, Jan Kilburn, Mark Kuehn, Sally Loughridge, Polly McGrory, John McKinley, Kay Miller, Jim Nyce, Betsy Palmer, Susan Pecora, Polly Steadman, and Kathleen Thornton. Gallery owner Will Kefauver also has new work in the show.
All of the art in the show — running through Dec. 15 — is for sale and is priced to fit every budget. Original art makes a unique and personal gift, and visitors are encouraged to see beautiful work created by many of Midcoast’s most talented artists.
