Just in case you have been thinking about what it would be like to begin a new adventure as a beekeeper, the opportunity to do so is just around the corner. The Knox Lincoln County Beekeepers is offering its annual Bee School to individuals interested in learning more about keeping bees.

Instructors of the classes are members of the KLCB in addition to the Maine state apiarist who will speak one evening on honey bee pests and pest management. While attending Bee School one night per week for seven consecutive weeks, students will learn about honey bees, how to select an apiary site, equipment requirements and use, four-season management, honey bee pests and pest management options. Perhaps the most vital part of the KLCB class is the opportunity to meet other beekeepers in the Knox/Lincoln County area who keep bees and who are interested in mentoring new beekeepers.

The Knox Lincoln County Beekeepers plan monthly programs throughout the year, with numerous hive openings and speakers during the spring, summer and fall months to encourage hands on experiences for all levels of beekeepers.

Classes will be held on consecutive Tuesday evenings from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Lincoln County Assembly of God Church (community room) 672 Main Street, Damariscotta, beginning on Feb. 25 and ending April 14 (includes one snow day).

Course fee is $60 and includes a textbook, handouts and a pro-rated annual membership to KLCB.
