Educate Maine, Joe Bornstein team up to support students and bookstores
Schools may be closed, but Educate Maine and the Law Offices of Joe Bornstein are teaming up to get books into the hands of students studying remotely.
The 2020 Maine Books Challenge is designed to help educate Maine students who are home from school while also supporting local bookstores. In addition to Internet connectivity and meals, educators say books are what students need most right now.
Every $10 donation is counted as one book and gift certificates can be purchased online to a Maine bookstore and emailed to Educate Maine. The Law Offices of Joe Bornstein is donating a $5,000 matching grant to help families who don’t have access to the supplies or resources necessary to continue their children’s education at home.
“Literacy and access to books are the backbone of education,” said Attorney Joe Bornstein. “It’s my law firm’s pleasure to help aide our teachers, educators, local bookstores, and most importantly Maine families during this time of remote learning.”
Educate Maine is working with a network of teachers and educators to distribute books in all 16 counties while supporting Maine’s independent bookstores.
