Wiscasset nods Clark’s Point item
During Monday’s Zoom meeting, the Wiscasset Planning Board approved an amendment to an approved plan for a driveway at Clark’s Point. The approval involving lot 8 will allow a new house under contract to have a less steep driveway.
The amendment had been tabled from the board’s last meeting for lack of a quorum. In other business Monday, Allison Chapman withdrew a request for a minor subdivision on Lowelltown Road.
Earlier Monday night, the Ordinance Review Committee voted to recommend selectmen adopt the Maine Uniform Building and Energy Code (MUBEC) and certificates of occupancy. MUBEC is not required for towns with populations under 4,000 in population; Wiscasset’s was about 3,700 as of the last Census, and board members expect the new Census will show a population above 4,000. If selectmen approve the ORC’s recommendation, residents will vote on the code. Board chair Karl Olson said if MUBEC is adopted, the certificates of occupancy would be a natural extension.
After the pre-application for a community solar farm at the planning board’s last meeting, it was noted no permit fee is listed for a project without a building, as with the proposed solar farm. ORC member Jackie Lowell volunteered to research what other towns have charged, how they arrive at the amount, and their solar farm ordinances. Board member Deb Pooler volunteered to examine surrounding towns’ ordinances on two upcoming topics: abandoned mobile homes and illegal junkyards.
The planning board meets next at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10.
