Marc A. Ashton, 67, of Lowell Town Road, Wiscasset died Aug. 16, 2021 at the Sussman House, Rockport, after a long illness.

He was born in Bath Jan. 7, 1954, the youngest of six children born to Arthur S. Ashton, Sr. and Kathleen (Reed) Ashton. He attended Bath grade schools and Morse High School. In his early life, he attended the Beacon Street Methodist Church in Bath.

Marc loved to tinker on antique cars from the time he was 13 years old. Over the years, he developed a hobby of restoring old autos — owning several favorites until his retirement in the early 2000s.

He had a relationship with the late Joyce Barter in his early life. They had one son, Aaron Ashton. He married the former Lori Bailey of Richmond, now of Florida. They were divorced after 20 years. They had a son, Alan J. Ashton. Throughout their marriage, they spent summers in Boothbay Harbor and wintered in Florida when Marc worked at Elwell Sheet Metal in Bath, and a in a restaurant in Boothbay for nearly 15 years.

In the late 1980s, he lived in Bath for four years where he established his own canoe business, learning the trade from well known canoe builder Jerry Stelmok of Atkinson. During this time he met and married the former Donna Brimigion. When they divorced, he gave up his canoe business and moved to Wiscasset.

In more recent years, health issues forced Marc to retire and give up most of his favorite activities. In their active years, he and  his brothers were a close knit family. They enjoyed fishing together for tuna, and other fish, and frequently reminisced about their many deer hunting trips. The brothers claimed having Marc along on these trips brought them good luck.

Marc was predeceased by his parents; four brothers, Arthur, Edward, Cleveland, and Charles Ashton; one sister, Roxanne Ashton; and a half-sister, Janet (Overlock) Tucker.

Surviving are his sons, Aaron Ashton of Wiscasset, and Alan J. Ashton, and his wife, Brianna, of Deerfield, Florida.; two grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Glenice Ashton, all of Wiscasset; seven step-brothers and sisters; and several nieces and nephews.

At Marc’s request, a graveside committal service will be held at the family lot in Oak Grove Cemetery, Bath, Thursday, Aug. 26 at 12:30 p.m.
