CTL students win poetry awards
Five students from the Center for Teaching and Learning in Edgecomb were honored by the Poetry Society of Virginia as part of the society’s international 2022 student contest.
For the second year in a row, CTL students took a clean sweep of the third and fourth grade category! Jacqueline Branch of Boothbay/Boothbay Harbor placed first for her poem, “Wild Mushroom.” Roy Journagan of Alna took second for his poem, “Little Leaf.” The third place prize went to Charlie Record of Boothbay for “Water in the Forest.” In the seventh and eighth grade category, Lilly Mae Awamleh of Bremen placed third for her poem, “What’s in My Journal?” Beatrix Recoing-Tallen of West Boothbay Harbor received an honorable mention for “Human Motion.”
The Poetry Society of Virginia was formed in 1923 to celebrate the writing and reading of poetry throughout Virginia, as well as nationally and internationally. Student poets are awarded a certificate and monetary prizes of $25, $15, and $10 for first, second, and third places respectively. Congratulations to the talented young writers!
