Boothbay Region Land Trust (BRLT) will be hosting a free movie to celebrate Earth Day on Saturday, April 23 at 2 p.m. at Harbor Theater. The theater is located at 185 Townsend Ave./Route 27, Boothbay Harbor, across from Hannaford.

The bird-themed documentary “The Messenger” is a visually thrilling film that reveals how the issues facing birds also pose daunting implications for our planet. It is an artful investigation into the causes of songbird mass depletion and the people working to turn the tide.

Maine ornithologist Dr. Jeffrey Wells will introduce the film. He has connections to this film and will be sharing information on the birds of Maine and beyond, the plights they face, and what can be done about it.

Dr. Jeff Wells is the Vice-president of Boreal Conservation for the National Audubon Society. He has authored or co-authored books, articles, academic publications, and blogs, and is the co-author, with his wife Allison, of a popular bird and natural history column for the Boothbay Register. During his time at the Boreal Songbird Initiative, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, and the National Audubon Society, Dr. Wells has earned a reputation as one of the nation’s leading bird experts and conservation biologists. He is now dedicated to understanding and protecting the land where North America’s birds are born and raised, the Boreal Forest region of Canada and Alaska.

This free event is limited to 80 participants with advance registration required.
