Masons present bikes to 12 WES readers
The Wiscasset Masonic Lodge presented 12 students with brand new Huffy bikes April 14 at Wiscasset Elementary School after students engaged in the "Books for Bikes Challenge."
Students in kindergarten through grade five have been reading feverishly in their classrooms and placing raffle tickets in a jar for an opportunity to win a brand new bike, Principal Kathleen E. Pastore said via email. The more books they read, the more robust their chance of starting school vacation with a shiny new bike, Pastore explained.
According to information the lodge provided, the program increases the time students spend “enjoying great books ... Additionally, by providing the bikes as an additional incentive, we are providing (students with a way) to build both mind and body.
