Evelyn was born on June 10, 1939, the daughter of Alfred and Christine Winchenback Clifford in Bristol, Maine. Evelyn graduated from Boothbay Harbor High School and went on to join the Women’s Army Corps. Her military service took her to Germany, the Pentagon, and Fort Huachuca, Arizona.
After serving our county, Evelyn worked for the Department of Agriculture. While working for USDA, she lived in Greenwood, Indiana, Sissonville, West Virginia, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and Gainesville, Florida., until she retired.
She was a fearless, strong, independent woman devoted to raising her only son on her own, as well as taking on the role of caregiver for her mother after her retirement. Evelyn and her mother would make many trips to Waldoboro, Maine in the summers to visit family and friends and playing bingo. Evelyn loved to play bingo, go to flea markets and shop at any yard sale within 50 miles. She collected lighthouses, Santas, angels, Fenton Glass, and plates.
Evelyn was a benevolent soul and loved to give gifts whenever she visited family. She always had some kind of Christmas gift for her relatives, usually her treasures from her adventures or from her love of gadgets from infomercials or HSN.
