Elmer Potter
Elmer (Bud) Potter, 89, passed away on July 11, 2022.
He was born on Nov. 19, 1932, in Newcastle, Maine. He lived almost his entire life in Edgecomb, Maine, while moving to Jacksonville Beach, Florida, in December of 2021 to be close to family who reside there.
Bud grew up in Newcastle and attended Lincoln Academy, class of 1950. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. After completing his Air Force duties, he worked for Bath Iron Works as a quality control inspector, once again supporting our country by helping to produce destroyers and frigates for the U.S. Navy. He retired from BIW after 39 years of service.
Throughout his life Bud was an incredible brother, husband, father, and grandfather. In addition to his family, he dearly loved his close group of friends, as well as living in the state of Maine. He spent much of his free time over the years snowmobiling, boating, golfing, and working outside on their family home of many generations. In addition to these activities Bud had a passion for sports and could be found on many occasions watching, following, and supporting his favorite New England sports team of the season.
Bud is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Beverly; son, Neil; daughter-in-law Yvette; grandchildren, Brittany Fallen (Matthew) and Ryan Potter (Briana); and nephews Larry Mathews and Bruce Matthews (Beth). He was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law Mary and Wendell Matthews.
A memorial service will be held later in the year in Edgecomb with a time and date to be announced.
