From Westport Island town office: Absentee ballots, more
From the town office:
September is a busy month here at Town Office and on the Island. It has been a long time since we have sent an update and we hope to be back to regular updates!
Tax bills have been mailed out and are due Sept. 30. If you have any questions, please contact Martha Hayward, Tax Collector at 882-8477 ext. 1 or via email at treasurer at westportisland.us
2021 Annual Reports are still available at the Town Office. We also have updated the Office Hours and Meeting Days web page and the Town Officials Contact page. It makes a great quick reference!
During September you may also request your absentee ballot for the November General Election. You may do so by: Coming to the office during office hours - Tuesdays 11-6 / Thursdays 9-2; calling Julie Casson, Town Clerk (phone call requests for absentee ballots may only be made by the registered voter requesting a ballot); or by visiting the State's absentee request service: https://apps.web.maine.gov/cgi-bin/online/AbsenteeBallot/index.pl

Volunteers wanted
Did you know that this Island has a unique spirit of volunteerism? Are you interested in learning more about the Island? Are you interested in meeting fellow islanders? Helping your neighbors or maintaining the vibrancy of our historic community? There are lots of ways to help!
We have committees that are in need of volunteer members! To learn about our Boards and Committees visit our website. A few of the committees that have immediate openings include: Town Hall Committee, Cemetery Committee, and Board of Appeals
Contact Julie Casson, Town Clerk at 882-8477 ext 3 or townclerkatwestportisland.us if you are interested for more information, but but do not hesitate to talk to us about any other volunteer committees or positions that pique your interest!
The Westport Volunteer Fire Department is another way to help our community. Volunteers are always welcome. Chief Stacey Hutchison would like Islanders to know that the WVFD is not just for those looking to run into a burning building! Members and volunteers are needed to do so much more. Volunteers can be helpful with the following: Support at a scene; control traffic or assist at a call by directing EMS to a driveway; help with maintaining the fire station and vehicles; assist with the Green Sign Program so that all houses on Westport Island can be found in an emergency; assist in storms; and more!
If you are interested in being part of a great organization, helping the Island, or even becoming a firefighter, please contact the Chief at the fire station. They meet Wednesday nights at 6 p.m. at the station. Or contact Chiefatwvfd.me
Community survey
Westport Island is interested in helping families connect. We have a lot of families here and many new families moving to Westport Island. In order to determine what we can do to assist with the needs of a growing community, we are looking to see what age groups there are on the Island.
This information will only to be used to see what community resources we potentially may come up with to connect fa.m.ilies. Do we need play areas? Parents' groups? Teen activities? We are not certain what we can do, but we need a place to start and knowing our target audience will help us to make any future determinations.
Please go to this link to take a brief one-question survey that can assist us in identifying our target audience of Island families.
