This week at Lincoln Theater
“Ticket to Paradise” - (PG-13; 1 hour, 44 minutes) - Academy Award winners George Clooney and Julia Roberts reunite on the big screen as exes who find themselves on a shared mission to stop their lovestruck daughter from making the same mistake they once made. From Working Title, Smokehouse Pictures and Red Om Films, Ticket to Paradise is a romantic comedy about the sweet surprise of second chances. Final showtime Thu Dec 8 at 2 PM.
“Much Ado About Nothing” / NT Live - (3 hours) - ‘Sweet, sparky, sexy, sombre’ (Financial Times). Filmed live from the National Theatre in London. The legendary family-run Hotel Messina on the Italian Riviera has been visited by artists, celebrities and royalty. But when the owner’s daughter weds a dashing young soldier, not all guests are in the mood for love. A string of scandalous deceptions soon surrounds not only the young couple, but also the adamantly single Beatrice and Benedick. Following the award-winning success of National Theatre Live’s Romeo & Juliet, Twelfth Night and Antony and Cleopatra, director Simon Godwin returns with this irresistible comedy, Shakespeare’s well-loved romcom of sun, sea, and mistaken identity, broadcast live from the National Theatre stage. Playing Thursday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. and Friday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. Tickets: $15 adults, $13 members, $5 youth 18 and under.
“TÀR” - (R; 2 hours, 38 minutes) - From writer-producer-director Todd Field comes TÁR, starring Cate Blanchett as Lydia Tár, the groundbreaking conductor of a major German orchestra. We meet Tár at the height of her career, as she’s preparing both a book launch and much-anticipated live performance of Mahler’s Fifth Symphony. Over the ensuing weeks her life begins to unravel in a singularly modern way. The result is a searing examination of power, and its impact and durability in today’s society. Plays at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9 and Saturday, Dec. 10; Sunday, Dec. 11 at 2 p.m.; Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 2 and 7 p.m. and Thursday, Dec. 15 at 2 p.m.
“The Hours” – The Met Live in HD - (approx. running time 3 hours, 13 minutes, w/1 intermission) - A World-Premiere production! Inspired by Virginia Woolf’s “Mrs. Dalloway” and made a household name by the Oscar-winning 2002 film version starring Meryl Streep, Julianne Moore, and Nicole Kidman. The powerful story follows three women from different eras who each grapple with their inner demons and their roles in society. Phelim McDermott directs this compelling drama, with Met Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin on the podium to conduct Kevin Puts’ poignant and powerful score.
