‘Art in the Square’ continues into the new year
Our wonderful community of local artists and the presence of many loyal fans have all contributed to a successful season for the Art in the Square here at the Boothbay Region Art Foundation (BRAF). And to keep viewers on their toes, new works are arriving almost every day! At this time, the exhibit has 240 squares on view. This translates into 34,560 square inches of eye candy! For those who still wish to enter a canvas, please do so! More blank canvases are available here at the gallery.
Each 12” x 12” square is $125, with $75 going to the artist and $50 toward BRAF’s mission. Most of these small art treasures are painted by known local and regional artists including John Butke, Virginia Forrest, Roger Milinowski, Ann Hedgecock, Andrea Peters, Sarah Wilde, Sandra Chase Morrissey, Judy Nixon, John O’Hearn, Brooke Pacy, Cally Peaco and more!
Our purpose: Two annual high school scholarship awards and the pre-K -12 Student Art Show at the BRAF Gallery are funded by this unique and colorful Holiday Exhibit. The Art Foundation also sponsors museum passes to the Portland Museum of Art and The Farnsworth Museum in Rockland. These passes are available all year at the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library and may be used for families or individuals.
BRAF’s mission is to serve our community by creating opportunities for people of all ages to enjoy, learn from and participate in the visual arts. Enabling one’s ability to create and/or view art- first hand- is accomplished at all levels through the purpose behind Art in the Square.
The gallery, at 1 Townsend Ave, in downtown Boothbay Harbor, is open Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. and by chance during the week.
We are participating in Men’s Night, offering a door prize and light refreshments. Our schedule presents an opportunity for last-minute shopping that includes gifts of artwork for NEW Year house-gifts.
