‘Dark & Light’ opens at River Arts
River Arts in Damariscotta announces the opening of “Dark & Light” a show juried by Lauren Donovan, artist and director of sales at Moss Galleries. With an impressive response from 134 submitting artists, Donovan selected 85 works from the 190 entries. The complete list of “Dark and Light” accepted works is published on the River Arts website: riverartsme.org.
The public is invited to an opening reception on Saturday, Feb. 25 from 2 to 4 p.m. Refreshments will be provided as well as the opportunity to meet many artists.
Historically, River Arts has been known for exhibiting an all black and white show in the winter. This year’s expanded theme allows for the use of color while keeping the idea of contrast between dark and light. The interpretation of this theme shows the creative nature of Maine’s artists. Stepping up to the challenge, the artists have created a truly wonderful selection of works. Visual puns, delightful whimsy, daring narrative and elegantly, elemental works are on display through April 1.
Simultaneously, River Arts features four artists in the River Room with an artists’ reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25. Karen Nadeau, Deborah Shappelle, Colleen White and Cheryl Young have works on display in their show titled, “4 Artists, 4 Stories.” These artists are some of the volunteers at River Arts whose dedicated hard work keeps the organization growing in success.
Gallery is located at 36 Elm St. in Damariscotta and open hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 pm. For more information call the gallery at (207) 563-6868.
