‘Collaborations’ at Kerr+Jones Gallery
Kerr+Jones Fine Art & Craft in East Boothbay launches its 2023 season with “Collaborations,” showcasing the works of six Maine artists who are creatively connected as partners Gayle Fraas & Duncan Slade, or mothers and daughter ceramicists Jane Dahmen and Emily Sabino, and jewelers Kathleen and Kate Jones.
There will be a reception at the gallery, open to the public, on Thursday, July 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. at 268 Ocean Point Road in East Boothbay. Parking will be available at the School Street lot.
Mixed media artists and life partners, Gayle Fraas and Duncan Slade are well known and admired locally and nationally. Their mesmerizing ink on paper works will be featured. In their words, “Our collaboration is for the most part conceptual. Pieces are conceived and executed by either one of us or as a team. Each piece continues our visual conversation.” Their mediums include, ink, paint, paper, and textiles.
Mother and daughter, Jane Dahmen and Emily Sabino, create playful and utterly unique ceramics which might capture a colorful rooster or a bird’s song. Jane’s love of color runs through her work. One of the most highly regarded contemporary artists in Maine, her vibrant landscape paintings are coveted by collectors.
There’s a wonderful feeling of spontaneity in her latest venture into the realm of ceramics. Working with potter, Alison Lauriat, Jane’s latest pieces are embellished in her own whimsical style. Emily Sabino's painted pottery works are an escape from our fast paced, digital world. Her pieces express a connection with clouds, mountains, water and animals. The scenes she creates, whether tea bowls or large platters, capture a slice of “the magic and expanded perspective one feels when surrounded by the nature."
Jewelers Kathleen and Kate Jones, are mother and daughter who arrived at jewelry design many years apart. Kate studied at Rhode Island School of Design and is known internationally for her stunning collections. In her words, ... “designed to be contemporary, yet timeless. Subtle, yet distinct…the definition of a modern heirloom.” Kathleen Jones acquired her skills at Maine College of Art and with prominent Portland jeweler/instructor, Pauline Warg. She creates minimalist designs in silver, stone and hand etched brass. Her studio is a stone’s throw from the Damariscotta River in East Boothbay.
