Wiscasset ‘Set for Success’ set for Aug. 11
On Sunday, Aug. 11, from 1 to 3:30 p.m., Set for Success (S4S) will once again throw a lively, joyful event at Wiscasset Community Center to celebrate the community and its upcoming school year. All Wiscasset’s students and their families are invited to pick up their teacher-recommended school supplies, as well as a red and black backpack to put them in. At the same time, people can check out many community support groups’ displays, get a haircut, find some new-to-you school clothes, have lunch, and check out the touch-a-truck area.
Wiscasset students, Pre-K to grade 12, are invited to take advantage of the opportunity to ready themselves for the upcoming school year. In its first few years of operation, Feed Our Scholars/Set For Success, in partnership with Wiscasset Parents in Education (PIE), focused on supporting the elementary level students. Last year, S4S expanded its reach to provide for the middle school students. Finally this year, the group is determined to provide the opportunity to the whole school population. Home-schooled students who would go to Wiscasset schools are also welcome to join in.
If you would like to sponsor the cost of a child’s school supplies, or otherwise donate so that Feed Our Scholars/Set for Success may purchase supply items, send a check for whatever you feel comfortable with to St. Philip’s Church, 12 Hodge St., Wiscasset, Maine 04578. Please write Set For Success in the memo line. St. Philip’s Church is a 501(c)(3) organization.
In-kind donations of supplies are welcome and can be dropped at the Wiscasset branch of the First Bank on Gardiner Road, Wiscasset Community Center, First Congregational Church, or St. Philip’s Church. Or check out the Amazon wish list at tinyurl.com/S4S2023 and do your shopping there. What could be easier?
On Saturday. July 13 from 7:30 to 1:30, S4S will host a bake sale at Ames Supply, Bath Road (Route One) in Wiscasset. All funds generated from the bake sale will be applied to our school supply mission of 2024.
