DaPonte String Quartet Christmas and winter concerts
The DaPonte String Quartet (DSQ) (violinists Dino Liva and Lydia Forbes, cellist Myles Jordan and Kirsten Monke on viola) announces concert dates and its program for the Christmas season.
The popular chamber music group will perform “Alleluia” by Randall Thompson, “Fantasias for Strings” by Henry Purcell, “Concerto for Two Violins” by Antonio Vivaldi and Antonin Dvorak's String Quartet in D Minor, Opus 34.
On Sunday, Dec. 1, the musicians will perform at the Church on the Cape, (Cape Porpoise, Kennebunkport) at 2 p.m. Advance tickets are $10, $12 at the door, however, MPBN (Maine Public Broadcasting Network) members may still purchase $10 tickets at the door. Order tickets at www.daponte.org.
Sunday, Dec. 15, at 3 p.m. the Quartet is at the Second Congregational Church in Newcastle for its annual free concert — a Christmas gift to the community.
Early in December the DSQ will also be performing another program, “Winter Series II: Old World/New World,” the fifth through the seventh.
Dmitri Shostakovich's “String Quartet No. 4 in D Major, Op. 83,” William Walton's “String Quartet No. 2 in A” and Antonin Dvorak's “String Quartet in D Minor, Op. 34” comprise the musical works for this program.
Concert dates and venues: Thursday, Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m., St. John's Episcopal Church, Thomaston; Friday, Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lincoln Theater, Damariscotta; Saturday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m., Rines Auditorium, Portland Public Library (concert-goers for this show, wanting to park in the Elm St. Garage are advised to call the garage on the day of the performance to confirm that they are able to stay open late that night: 207-874-2842); and on Sunday, Dec. 8 3 p.m. at the Mid-Coast Presbyterian Church, Topsham.
