Along with some terrific films this week with stories of families and mistresses, we’re pleased to host the Camden International Film Festival’s 'Aging in Maine Film Tour' … a wonderful chance to see a some thought-provoking films on a subject that hopefully touches us all – getting older. While we eagerly anticipate spring, come in and get warm with a good movie.

“August: Osage County” (R, 1:59)

Meryl Streep. Julia Roberts. Need we say more? Based on the Pulitzer Prize winning play, “August: Osage County,” tells the dark, hilarious and deeply touching story of the strong-willed women of the Weston family, whose lives have diverged.  That is, until a family crisis brings them back to the Midwest house they grew up in, and to the dysfunctional woman who raised them.

Final performances Wednesday, March 19 and Thursday, March 20 at 2 and 7 p.m. Presented in partnership with The Lady’s Room.

“The Invisible Woman” (R, 1:51)

Adapted from Claire Tomalin’s 1990 biography, “The Invisible Woman.” It is the true story of Dickens’ longtime clandestine affair with Nelly Ternan, who was 27 years his junior. They met in 1857 when Nelly, 18, was appearing in the Collins play “The Frozen Deep,” whose production Dickens, age 45, oversaw. The film is directed by, and stars, Ralph Fiennes. Unlike the typical British period piece descended from the Merchant-Ivory school of Anglophile nostalgia, it purposefully conveys a 19th-century sense of time, which in the movie seems to pass much more deliberately than it does today. “The Invisible Woman” show dates and times: Friday, March 21 at 2 p.m. Also screens Saturday, March 22 at 2 and 7 p.m., Sunday, March 23 at 7 p.m., Wednesday March 26 and Thursday, March 27 at 2 and 7 p.m., It is presented in partnership with Damariscotta Bank & Trust.

DaPonte String Quartet - 'Voices of Angels'

The DaPonte String Quartet returns to Lincoln Theater for “The Winter Series III: Voices of Angels” program featuring the works of Randall Thompson, Franz Josef Hayden, Earl Louis Stewart, and George Crumb. Performance on Friday, March 21 at 7:30 p.m.

Camden International Film Festival Aging in Maine Film Tour

Lincoln Theater is pleased to bring the Camden International Film Festival's Aging in Maine Film Tour to Damariscotta with a series of shorts and a documentary feature that will help spark a public, inter-generational dialogue around the challenges and opportunities of Maine’s aging demographics.

In “The Genius of Marian,” filmmaker Banker White documents the efforts of his mother Pam, diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, to write a book paying tribute to her late mother, Marian Williams Steel, a celebrated artist who also suffered from the common form of dementia. As Pam's memory begins to fade, her efforts to finish the book take on a poignant air of urgency that offers insight into the disease that is slowly ravaging her mind, and the rich family legacy she must now race to preserve. Following “The Genius of Marian” and brief discussion, we will present four shorts: “Kings Point,” “Old People Driving,” “Slomo,” and “The Caretaker.” The feature screens at 1 p.m., and the shorts at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 23. Come for part, come for all.
