Alleged Wiscasset Ford theft leads to indictment
A Winthrop man has been charged with felony theft by unauthorized taking after he allegedly kept a car dealership's car after being let go from the same establishment.
Clarence Snyder, 33, of Winthrop was indicted in December by the Lincoln County Grand Jury on one count of Class B theft by unauthorized taking stemming from a May incident in Wiscasset.
Snyder allegedly turned himself in to Wiscasset police after being told to do so by Winthrop police in September.
In May 2014, Snyder allegedly admitted to keeping the car after receiving a letter from Wiscasset Ford that informed him that he no longer was employed at the Route 1 dealership.
He also allegedly kept the license plate from the dealership.
After allegedly admitting to the police that he kept the car, Snyder was arrested and booked into Two Bridges Regional Jail without incident, according to an arrest report from Wiscasset Police Officer James Read.
Because the 2012 Ford Focus was valued at over $10,000, Snyder was charged with Class B theft by unauthorized taking, which is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and up to a $20,000 fine.
