Alleged choking leads to aggravated assault charge
An Alna man has been charged with aggravated assault after he allegedly choked a woman following an argument.
Kysten Wallace, 28, of Alna was arrested Dec. 5 and charged with Class B aggravated assault.
On Dec. 5, Sheriff’s Deputy Justin Drake responded to an address in Jefferson for a reported assault.
When Drake arrived, he spoke with the victim who said that Wallace had allegedly choked her during a verbal argument. The woman said that she had struck Wallace several times after he reportedly shoved her.
The victim reported that she couldn't breath while she was allegedly being strangled; Drake also reportedly saw a small amount of blood on her face and what appeared to be red marks on her neck.
When Drake spoke with Wallace, he said the two had been arguing, but that the victim had allegedly punched him several times. Wallace allegedly admitted to pushing the victim away from him. Drake wrote in his report that Wallace had blood on his face and appeared to have a bloody nose.
When Drake attempted to speak with another person who was reportedly present at the house about what had happened, the other woman reportedly declined to provide a statement.
Drake wrote in his report that based on the evidence he had, he believed Wallace to be the primary aggressor and arrested him and charged him with aggravated assault and transported him to Two Bridges Regional Jail.
Wallace will appear in court on Jan. 29; he was ordered to have no contact with the victim.
Aggravated assault is a Class B crime, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison or up to a $20,000 fine.
