Neighbor averts Dresden barn fire
Dresden firefighters found smoke but no flames when they arrived at a barn on River Road the afternoon of Feb. 18. A heating lamp had fallen into a stall of the barn where pigs were at the time, Dresden Fire Lt. Todd Clark said at the scene at 970 River Road.
Clark credited an observant neighbor with averting a structure fire.
“The pigs are happy, thanks to him,” Clark said, motioning to next door neighbor Gary Cromwell.
Cromwell said he was driving by when he spotted smoke coming from the building. He knocked at the door of the home, located near the barn, and got no answer. He then called 911, he said.
Wiscasset, Bowdoinham and Richmond fire departments all were dispatched to come help but were stopped when it turned out they were not needed, Clark said.
