Damage limited at Northeast Transport fire in Waldoboro
The co-owner of Northeast Transport trucking company in Waldoboro on Feb. 22 thanked that town’s fire department and other ones for putting out a fire at the business’ new building.
“They were extremely professional and they did us proud,” Jeff Payson said shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday.
Jefferson Fire Department responded to the scene along with Waldoboro, Nobleboro, Union and Warren fire departments, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. Bristol and Bremen fire departments covered other departments’ stations. Fire officials could not immediately be reached for comment.
No one was hurt, Payson said.
Payson, who owns the family-run business with wife, Jill Payson, got word of the fire at about 10:48 a.m. A truck inside the new building had an electrical fire and took most of the damage, Jeff Payson said in a telephone interview. The building had smoke damage that will need to be cleaned up, he said.
“But for bad news, it’s not that bad,” he said.
The building where the fire occurred is state-of-the-art and was just completed in November 2014, he said. An alarm went off on a heating detector, which led to the emergency response and likely helped minimize the damage, he said.
While cleanup is under way, the other garage on-site, a wooden one, will be housing vehicles, Payson said.
Payson was receiving messages of support and offers of help from fellow businesspeople and other members of the community Sunday.
