Damariscotta man arrested, pleads guilty to stealing drugs
A Damariscotta man who stole drugs from a relative has pleaded guilty to the theft and possession of the prescription drugs.
Dale Stone, 21, of Damariscotta was arrested March 2 and charged with Class D stealing drugs and Class E possession of scheduled drugs by the Damariscotta Police Department. On March 4 Stone pleaded guilty to both charges and was sentenced to a week in jail on both counts to run concurrently and to pay a $1,000 fine.
Stone was originally arrested when Damariscotta Sgt. Jason Warlick received a call from a family member who lives with Stone, stating that their anti-anxiety drugs were missing. The family member reportedly told Warlick that they could see the pills in Stone's room.
When Warlick went into Stone's room, he could reportedly see pills on a box on top of a dresser. Warlick confiscated the pills and sent them to poison control and both came back as anti-anxiety prescriptions. Stone, who did not reportedly have a prescription for the drugs, was arrested shortly thereafter.
Both crimes are classified by misdemeanors, with Class D crimes carrying a maximum sentence of 364 days in jail while Class E crimes have a maximum sentence of six months in county jail. Stone had previously been arrested in August 2014 for illegal possession of scheduled drugs, also by Warlick. Stone was indicted by the Lincoln County Grand Jury in 2013 for aggravated unlawful furnishing of drugs.
