Dresden home catches fire
Firefighters from Wiscasset, Woolwich and several other area departments helped Dresden firefighters put out a fire at a home on Cedar Grove Road on Saturday afternoon, April 18, Dresden Fire Chief Steve Lilly said.
An occupant of the wooden, three-story, 1800s home at 264 Cedar Grove Road, or Route 128, was burning debris near the home when the home’s clapboards caught fire, Lilly said. The fire was reported at 3:45 p.m. Saturday. A wall also caught fire, Lilly said.
“It was contained to that one wall. We stopped it in that wall and kept it from spreading.”
In addition to the Dresden, Wiscasset and Woolwich fire departments, Pittston, Richmond and Gardiner fire departments and Wiscasset Ambulance Service responded to the scene. No one was hurt, Lilly said. The fire on the home was due to the debris being burned too close to it, he said.
Lilly said anyone considering doing a burn should first check state and local laws on conducting them.
Firefighters cleared the scene at 5:30 p.m., Lilly said.
The home is owned by Chop Point School in Woolwich, the chief said.
