Plane flies over Maine Yankee property
Maine Yankee called Wiscasset police Friday afternoon, May 15, to report that a plane had gone over the property, Wiscasset Police Sgt. Kathy Williams said. It turned out that the plane was in Wiscasset to refuel at Wiscasset Municipal Airport, Williams said.
When anything suspicious occurs near the property, the Wiscasset Police Department, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department and Maine State Police are all notified, Williams said. There will be no further investigation regarding the plane, she said.
Maine Yankee’s nuclear power plant was shut down in 1997. Spent nuclear fuel remains stored in above-ground casks on the Bailey Point peninsula while the federal government considers where to move the waste.
