Two men charged with heroin trafficking
The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency has charged two men in Brunswick with selling heroin.
They were arrested in the Linnhaven Mobile Home Park Wednesday.
The two are 33-year-old Nathan Donovan of Brunswick and 35-year-old Melvin Givens of New York, both charged with aggravated trafficking of heroin. Givens is being held on $50,000 bail and Donovan’s bail was set at $25,000.
For the past three months the MDEA Mid-Coast District Task Force has been investigating cocaine and heroin sales, in Brunswick and in Lincoln and Sagadahoc counties. The investigation centered on Givens who was traveling to Maine from New York with large amounts of cocaine and heroin. Givens would stay at local drug users/distributors homes to sell his drugs and he frequently changed locations to evade law enforcement.
With the assistance of the Sagadahoc Sheriff’s Department, and the Bath and Brunswick Police Departments, agents located Givens at 14 Kurt Street in Linnhaven, where he was staying with Nathan Donovan and Donovan’s father, 68 year old Robert Tardiff. Agents determined Givens and Donovan were conducting drug sales from the mobile home and a search warrant was issued to search it.
Wednesday afternoon, the Brunswick Police Special Response Team (SRT) entered and secured the mobile home without incident. MDEA utilized the SRT to safely secure the residence and any people inside prior to agents conducting their search.
Found inside were approximately 27 grams of heroin, 4.5 grams of cocaine, Suboxone strips, marijuana, a digital scale and other items associated with drug sales. The street value of the seized heroin and cocaine was $5,500.
Givens and Donovan were arrested without incident and transported to the Cumberland County Jail. Robert Tardiff was arrested on outstanding warrants for unpaid fines and transported to the Brunswick Police Department where he posted bail.
Drug agents have identified a number of other people who have provided their homes for Givens’ drug sales and additional arrests are likely.
