Boston band Girls Guns and Glory on stage in Boothbay Harbor on June 20
In fall 2014, Girls Guns and Glory were named to Rolling Stone’s “10 New Artists You Need to Know” list.
On Saturday, June 20 the Boothbay Harbor region will have an opportunity to get to know this old school country and early rock ‘n’ roll band up close.
Girls Guns and Glory are performing at the historic opera house at 7:30 p.m.
For the past eight years, this Boston-based band of rising stars have been making a name for themselves through relentless touring, the release of five critically acclaimed records, four Boston Music Awards, including being the Boston Music Awards first act of its genre to win Act of the Year, and international awards (Independent Artist of the Year at the French Country Music Awards).
The band members are Ward Hayden on vocals/guitar, Paul Dilley on electric and upright bass/piano, Josh Kiggans on drums/percussion, and Chris Hersch on lead guitar/banjo.
The band finds inspiration from early 1950s rock ‘n’ roll icons such as Chuck Berry, Eddie Cochran and Buddy Holly, as well as country greats like Hank Williams and Johnny Cash.
Of the band’s musical evolution over the past few years, Hayden says: “Our sound has been evolving from country to where we are now. I label what we do now as American music. It’s really rooted in various American forms of music whether it’s rockabilly or hillbilly boogie or traditional country or rock ‘n’ roll. I consider us a rock ‘n’ roll band blended with classic country music.”
The evening may sound as though it has come from straight south of the Mason-Dixon line at times, but these New England musicians are making a name for themselves across the country.
Tickets for the show are $15 in advance and $20 if purchased on the day of the performance.
The Girls Guns and Glory concert is sponsored in part by Dispatch Magazine.
The opera house box office is open Tuesday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 86 Townsend Ave., or by calling 207-633-5159.
Tickets and information are also available at www.boothbayoperahouse.com. Online ticket sales end the day prior to the performance.
Doors for seating open at 7 p.m. with the band going on stage at 7:30 p.m. The historic upstairs bar at the opera house will open at 6:30 p.m. for ticket holders.
