Alleged fight over car keys leads to Wiscasset man’s arrest
A Wiscasset man has been arrested and sent to Two Bridges Regional Jail after he allegedly got into an argument with a relative that involved car keys and a broken phone.
Jeremy Taylor, 26, of Wiscasset was arrested June 24 in Wiscasset and charged with two class D crimes after he allegedly broke a phone and shoved a relative.
According to the arrest report, Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputy Chad Gilbert wrote that he responded to the Wiscasset residence on West Alna Road for a report of a domestic dispute. Gilbert wrote that he spoke with Taylor who reportedly said that he and the victim had an argument and that he had allegedly thrown the house phone, causing it to break.
Gilbert wrote that Taylor reportedly admitted to throwing the phone, but allegedly said that it was the only thing that happened during the incident, and denied having laid hands on the victim.
The fight reportedly started over car keys; Taylor and the victim reportedly had a tug of war over the keys.
The victim reportedly said she was pushed and shaken by Taylor, according to Gilbert's report. The victim refused to write a statement and didn't want Taylor arrested.
Taylor was charged with two class D offenses: domestic violence criminal mischief and domestic violence assault, both of which are misdemeanors and punishable by up to 364 days in jail and up to a $2,000 fine.
Taylor has been arrested for charges pertaining to domestic violence before: He was arrested and released the same day on July 9, 2012, for domestic violence and arrested July 11, 2012, and released July 17, 2012, for domestic violence.
Taylor submitted a motion to amend bail to be able to return home, with a note stating that the incident was a misunderstanding.
Taylor was held at Two Bridges Regional Jail on $200 cash bail and was ordered to have no contact with the victim and a young child who also resides at the residence. He will have a court date Aug. 10 at 8:30 a.m. at the Lincoln County Courthouse.
