Irving Berlin featured in Newcastle multimedia presentation
Irving Berlin was one of the most prolific and popular songwriters of the 20th century. According to the classic songwriter Jerome Ken, "Irving Berlin is American music."
Some may differ about Berlin's absolute primacy, but without a doubt this child of New York's Lower East Side is responsible for an astonishing number of American war-horses, including "God Bless America," "Blue Skies," "Always," "White Christmas, "Cheek to Cheek" and "Easter Parade."
Join college professor, administrator, librarian and American music buff Dr. James Pegolotti on Tuesday evening, July 14, 7 p.m., at St. Andrews Episcopal Church on Glidden Street in Newcastle as he, through the integration of video clips, piano tunes, quotes, storytelling and a lyrical sing-along, presents the life, times, words and music of Irving Berlin.
Discover why, in a 1920s interview for American Magazine, Berlin noted, "Music is so important. It changes thinking, it influences everybody, whether they know it or not."
During his two-hour presentation, Pegolotti will explore Berlin's “rags-to-riches” story and his musical career.
