Newcastle man charged with three counts of sexual contact
A Newcastle man who was arrested in January on charges alleging he threatened a Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputy has been rearrested and charged with unlawful sexual contact.
Gary Collamore, 68, of Newcastle was arrested Tuesday, July 21 by Lincoln County Sheriff’s detectives Ronald Rollins and Terry Michaud and charged with three counts of Class B unlawful sexual contact.
Collamore reportedly first came to the attention of the sheriff's office in February 2014, when a Department of Health and Human Services referral stated that a 3-year-old child had been sexually assaulted, allegedly by Collamore.
A press release from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday, July 21 stated that after an investigation, no charges were filed due a lack of evidence for the alleged 2014 assault.
During a January 2015 arrest Collamore allegedly made statements about the assaults, which reopened the case.
Collamore is alleged to have threatened Sheriff's Deputy Ryan Chubbuck with a kitchen knife during the arrest.
On Jan. 10, Chubbuck was dispatched to Newcastle after receiving a call that a man had cut himself with a knife and was reportedly suicidal. When Chubbuck arrived at the Newcastle house, he wrote in the arrest report that he couldn't see anyone inside the house at first, but that after opening the door to announce that a deputy was there, he reportedly saw Collamore.
Chubbuck wrote that he pointed his gun at Collamore and ordered him to drop the knife, which Collamore allegedly refused to do. Chubbuck wrote that his finger was on the trigger and that Collamore had made a threatening remark to him and feared that Collamore might lunge at him with the knife.
Chubbuck wrote that he told Collamore he would shoot him if he moved any closer, at which point Collamore allegedly laid down the knife. Collamore was eventually arrested, and during the arrest he is alleged to have admitted to the sexual assault.
For the alleged January incident, he was charged with Class C threatening, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and up to $5,000 in fines.
After an investigation, Collamore was arrested and charged with three felony counts of unlawful sexual contact.
If convicted, Collamore could face a prison sentence; Class B crimes are punishable by up to 10 years in prison and up to a $20,000 fine. He was held on $250 bail at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset.
