Suzanne Nance solos with Lincoln Festival Chorus and Mozart Mentors Orchestra
The Lincoln Festival Chorus will perform an all-Mozart program with soprano soloist Suzanne Nance, accompanied by the Mozart Mentors Orchestra, conducted by Anthony Antolini Friday, Aug. 14 at the Opera House at Boothbay Harbor and at St. Patrick’s in Newcastle on Sunday, Aug. 16. Both concerts begin at 7:30 p.m.
The Opera House at Boothbay Harbor is located at 86 Townsend Avenue and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church at 380 Academy Hill Road in Newcastle.
The program will feature Mozart’s youthful “Regina Coeli” K 108 and his exuberant “Solemn Vespers” K 339. Also on the program is Mozart’s meditative “Ave verum corpus” for chorus and orchestra.
Nance will return to Maine from her current position at fine arts broadcast network WFMT in Chicago for these performances. A great favorite of Maine audiences, she has been hailed for her “crystalline voice” with “volcanic power” and “exceptional dramatic abilities.”
Nance has recently announced that she will be leaving WFMT Chicago and moving to Portland, Oregon, where she will take over as program director and on-air host of “All Classical Portland” in September, a radio network with broadcast stations throughout the state.
Mozart Mentors Orchestra, founded in 2010 by conductor Anthony Antolini and violinist Clorinda Noyes, is composed of Maine string teachers and their most promising students who play alongside them. The orchestra also accompanies choral performances of the Bowdoin College Chorus and Down East Singers. For these performances some of Maine’s most prominent brass players will be joining the orchestra.
Adult tickets are $20. Those under 18 admitted free but must be picked up where adult tickets are sold.
Tickets are available for both performances in Boothbay Harbor at the Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce, St. Andrews Village, A Silver Lining, and Sherman’s Books & Stationery; at the Boothbay Information Center in Boothbay; and at the door if any remain.
or at the door if any tickets remain. Doors open at 7 p.m. Free tickets are available for active military personnel with ID. For Friday night’s performance, tickets may be purchased online at www.boothbayoperahouse.com.
Following the Sunday evening Newcastle performance, the Chorus will host a reception to welcome soloist Suzanne Nance and members of the orchestra. Audience members are encouraged to attend the reception and meet the performers.
