Special holiday events at the Lincoln Theater
Lincoln Theater in downtown Damariscotta, along with its regular programming, is pleased to offer four special events to celebrate this holiday season: an opera, a play, a ballet and a concert.
On Saturday, Dec. 12 at 1 p.m., there will be a special encore performance from the Metropolitan Opera of Mozart’s “The Magic Flute.”
The groundbreaking broadcast of this Mozart classic launched the Met's award-winning Live in HD series to movie theaters in 2006. It enchanted opera lovers from around the world with the whimsical humor and breathtaking puppetry of Julie Taymor's hit production, presented in a shortened English version (running under two hours).
Suitable for the entire family, children’s tickets have been specially priced at $5 and adult tickets have been reduced to $20 and $18 for Lincoln Theater members.
Sundays without Scenery, our live play reading series, continues on Sunday, Dec. 13 with Jon Robin Baitz's Pulitzer Prize-nominated “Other Desert Cities,” at 2 and 7 p.m.
In this Christmas-time tale, Brooke Wyeth returns home to Palm Springs after a six-year absence to celebrate the holiday with her parents, brother, and aunt. Brooke announces that she is about to publish a memoir dredging up a pivotal and tragic event in the family's history - a wound they don't want reopened.
The play stars Tyson Bailey, Mary Charbonnet, Al D'Andrea, Jennifer True and Dixie Weisman with direction by John Mulcahy. Tickets: $10/adults; $8/LT members.
Then, captured live from Moscow on Sunday, Dec. 20 a 1 p.m. The Bolshoi Ballet performs Tchaikovsky’s classic, “The Nutcracker.” This beloved holiday favorite will enchant the whole family with its fairy tale setting and Tchaikovsky's timeless score.
The Bolshoi's version of The Nutcracker has a unique and beautiful sense of romance and philosophy, danced by Denis Rodkin as the courageous Prince and Anna Nikulina as Marie. Tickets: youth/$5, adults/$25 and $23/LT Members.
Finally, on the “third day of Christmas,” Sunday, Dec. 27 at 3 p.m., an encore showing of The Three Tenors Christmas Concert will be screened.
Resplendent in voice and manner, José Carreras, Placido Domingo, and Luciano Pavarotti deliver 21 songs of traditional sacred music and secular numbers in a remarkable 1999 live recording from the opulent Viennese concert hall (Konzerthaus), with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and a renowned choir. Youth tickets $5 and adults $20 ($18 for LT members).
