Universal life stories told through dance and music
Resurgence Dance Company presents “Late Night Tales,” a contemporary ballet featuring vignettes of true stories depicting moments in dancers’ lives. Performances are in the Curtis Room of the Chocolate Church Annex on Friday, Jan. 29 and Saturday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 31 at 2 p.m.
The Resurgence Dance Company, directed by Ashley Steeves is comprised of 12 dancers. The origin of this show is derived from when members of the company sat down and drank some tea together and discussed some details from their pasts.
“You can dance with someone for years and not realize that they live in the same town, went to college in New York, or are allergic to pets,” said Steeves. “This project was a way for the dancers to open the dialogue about one another and feel closer. This dynamic transmits into their performances choreographed to current music.”
From ambient to upbeat, each dancer performs stories from their lives to give the audience a more personal experience. Multiple dances will be shown, and narration will help tune audience members into the story behind the pieces.
The Curtis Room, being a smaller performance space, gives audiences an up close and personal view of the dancers. The performances will last just over an hour and will not have an intermission.
