Wiscasset woman killed in Bath crosswalk accident
A 70-year-old Wiscasset woman died Feb. 17 after being struck while using a crosswalk on Washington Street in Bath.
Paula K. Caruso died at the scene, after being struck by a 2008 Chevy Trailblazer registered to and driven by Edward Buzzell, 57, of Bath. Buzzell works at Bath Iron Works. Caruso was also a BIW employee. She had worked there less than a year.
The accident happened near King Street. Initial indications are that Buzzell was traveling north on Washington Street; Caruso was crossing Washington Street, toward BIW by Union Street in a crosswalk.
Sgt. Nathan Gould was the first officer on-scene. Caruso was unresponsive. Gould started CPR, then Bath Fire Department arrived and took over first aid.
Caruso died at the scene.
The accident remained under investigation Feb. 18. No charges have been filed. Buzzell has cooperated with the investigation.
