Six students hurt in Boothbay bus crash

Six Boothbay Region Elementary and High School students were injured March 31 in a two-vehicle accident involving a 2003 International school bus and 2003 Oldsmobile Bravado on Back Narrows Road in Boothbay.
Three students along with Boothbay resident Lori L. Dishman, 47, the Oldsmobile’s operator, were transported to Lincoln Heath’s Miles Campus in Damariscotta. An additional three students reported minor injuries and were released to their parents.
The preliminary investigation determined the Oldsmobile was driving south on Back Narrows Road and crossed into the bus heading northbound; the school bus was transporting 12 elementary and high school passengers ages 12-15, according to press releases from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
The school bus operator was identified as Robert E. Jacobson, 79, of Boothbay Harbor.
The accident’s cause hasn’t been determined. Lincoln County deputies are investigating the crash. A reconstructionist was sent on March 31 to review the accident scene.
“As of today, no one has been charged as a result of this investigation,” wrote Lt. Rand Maker in an April 1 press release. “Deputies will consult with the Wiscasset District Attorney’s office once the investigation is complete in determining if civil or criminal charges are appropriate.”
Back Narrows Road was closed for 90 minutes while the investigation took place and emergency personnel cleared the road. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Boothbay Harbor Police Department, Boothbay Fire Department and Boothbay Region Ambulance Service.
