Wiscasset pursues replacement of totaled cruiser
Wiscasset Town Manager Marian Anderson expressed hope April 29 that a civilian driver’s insurer will cover all the costs to replace and outfit a town police cruiser totaled in an April 14 crash.
“We’re pushing,” with phone calls twice a day to the insurer, Anderson told the Wiscasset Budget Committee. Committee members said they were glad the driver had insurance.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office has said an investigation determined that Yeshi Khendrup, 42, of El Cerrito, California was driving a 2016 Acura SUV, attempting to exit the Irving/Circle K convenience store lot on Route 1, and pulled into the cruiser’s path. The cruiser, driven by Sgt. Alfred Simmons, struck the SUV broadside, according to a sheriff’s office press release. Khendrup was issued a traffic summons for failing to yield right of way, the release stated.
