Route 1 head-on kills one, injures two
One person was pronounced dead at the scene of a two-vehicle, head-on crash on Wiscasset’s Route 1 near the Woolwich line Friday, Interim Wiscasset Police Chief Jerry Hinton said. The person who died was a passenger in one of the vehicles, Hinton said.
The vehicles’ drivers suffered apparent severe injuries and were taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland, Hinton said. Shortly after noon, he asked that if anyone can avoid Route 1 for the next couple of hours, they do so. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is helping reconstruct the accident. After that is completed, traffic can begin to be re-opened, but until then re-routing was occurring. The Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office was helping on traffic, Hinton said.
He expected to release more information later Friday. As of 1:27 p.m., two tow trucks were on-scene.
