Jefferson woman charged in alleged scam
The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office is investigating a door-to-door scam and a Jefferson woman has been charged with a felony of stealing prescription drugs. The Sheriff’s Office has charged Amanda Wallace, 34, with stealing drugs from a Nobleboro residence.
Wallace was allegedly going door-to-door telling residents she was looking for her lost dog and asking to use their bathroom. The scam was, there was never a lost dog and Wallace was allegedly looking through the medicine cabinets for prescription narcotics.
The scam came to the attention of the Sheriff’s Office when suspicious activity complaints started coming in from around the county of a pregnant female claiming to be looking for her dog and asking to use the bathroom.
On Wednesday, May 18, investigators were able to identify the woman as Wallace. The Sheriff’s Office and Damariscotta Police Department located Wallace and during a subsequent interview, she admitted to entering several homes around the county under false pretenses looking for drugs.
Wallace was summonsed and released due to her having a minor child with her at the time. The investigation is continuing.
