Area residents hurt in Woolwich accident
A Damariscotta man and a South Bristol woman were taken to area hospitals Sunday after a three-vehicle accident on Woolwich’s Route One.
The Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office, Woolwich Fire and EMS, Wiscasset Fire Department and Wiscasset Ambulance Service responded to the scene near the Mountain Road intersection. The accident was reported at about 12:35 p.m.
Sara Busch, 71, of South Bristol was traveling northbound in a 2011 Subaru when she crossed into the southbound lane, striking a southbound 2003 Buick driven by Aaron Limberger, 21, of Vassalboro. That collision caused the Subaru to roll over, striking the roof and hood of a southbound 1998 Toyota driven by Jose Fernandez-Robledo, 52, of Damariscotta.
The Subaru came to rest on its roof in the southbound lane. Busch went on a Lifeflight helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with unknown injuries. North East Ambulance took Fernandez-Robledo to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick on a complaint of pain. Limberger was not hurt.
A CMMC spokesman on Monday confirmed Busch was currently a patient there. A Mid Coast Hospital spokesman said Fernandez-Robledo was treated and released Sunday.
The crash happened on a bridge. Both lanes were closed for two hours while crews treated those involved and cleared the scene.
Sheriff’s Deputy Steve Thibeault is investigating the crash to determine what caused Busch to cross the center line.
