Community Design Showhouse extended for week
St. Andrew’s Community Design Showhouse in Newcastle, which took place this past week, has been extended for another week. The church’s Parish House on Glidden Street has been transformed into a showcase for local interior designers and home furnishings shops. All proceeds from the event go to the church’s 18 local and international charity recipients. The extended dates are Thursday, Oct. 6 and Friday, Oct. 7 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“Everyone just can’t believe the miraculous transformation of the Parish House,” said organizer and interior designer Ruth Piper. “Rooms have been brought to life by so many talented and creative people in the area.”
Fourteen area designers are showcasing their wares in ten rooms, among them The 1839 House, Sproul’s Furniture, interior designer Jim Van Dyke, Salt Bay Trading Company, Nobleboro Antique Exchange Paint Room, designer Juliana Hoffmann, and Moulinette and BIRCH Home Furnishings and Gifts. Rooms include an Art of Dining room featuring a one-of-a-kind-handmade table, a Butlers’ Pantry, a stately Rector’s Study, an airy Living Room and three bedrooms upstairs, all decorated with the light and bright feeling of a Maine summer cottage.
Added attractions of the event include a docent-led tour of the Arts and Crafts style interior of the church, organ concerts at noontime, and self-guided walking tours of historic Glidden Street, including a guided tour of four gardens. Beneficiaries of ticket sales go to the Lincoln County Energy Fund, New Hope for Women, Healthy Kids, CHIP and Habitat for Humanity, among others.
Tickets can be purchased in advance for $15 at St. Andrew’s Church office from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., or at the door of the Parish House for $20. For more information, call St. Andrew’s at 563-3533 or Ruth Piper at 380-1707.
