Update: Victims named in double fatal Boothbay fire
Update: According to Steve McCausland, State Public Information officer, the state fire marshal’s office says two people have been killed and four others injured in a house fire this morning in Boothbay. The four injured were taken to hospitals in Damariscotta and Portland. The two dead are Baldomero Zamora, 50, and Lucas Farias, 23, both of Chicago. Both apparently tried to escape the fire. Their bodies were each found on the second floor, near windows in two separate bedrooms.
Julie Gilbert, 48, also of Chicago and formerly of Damariscotta, received burns, jumped out a second-floor window of one of those bedrooms and is being treated at Maine Medical Center in Portland. Gilbert is Farias’ mother and Zamora’s girlfriend.
First-floor occupants, all treated and released, were Alexandra King, 26, of Winslow and her two children, daughter Harley Raymond, 8, and River Raymond, 4.
The home was rented for a belated 50th birthday for Zamora and several friends had attended a birthday party at the home earlier in the evening, according to McCausland’s email.
The occupants were renting the Cape Cod-style home for the weekend. Four fire marshal investigators are on scene.
The fast-moving fire destroyed the house at 116 Pleasant Cove Road in Boothbay Sunday morning, Oct. 9.
Firefighters from Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, Southport, Edgecomb and Newcastle were at the scene at approximately 7:30 a.m. Three Boothbay Region Ambulance Service ambulances responded as well.
It is not known at this time if there were any casualties; however, a person at the fire said a woman jumped out one of the windows.
