‘I, Claude Monet’ to screen at Lincoln Theater
For one show only, on Thursday, March 30 at 7 p.m., Lincoln Theater in downtown Damariscotta will screen “I, Claude Monet.” From award-winning director Phil Grabsky comes this fresh new look at arguably the world’s favorite artist, through his own words and works, shot on location throughout Europe at the very spots he painted.
Based on over 2,500 letters and narrated by Henry Goodman, “I, Claude Monet” reveals new insight into the man who not only painted the picture that gave birth to impressionism, but who was perhaps the most influential and successful painter of the 19th and early 20th centuries. The documentary humanizes the great impressionist whose stock has been somewhat devalued by blockbuster shows.
Monet’s life is a gripping tale about a man who, behind his sun-dazzled canvases, suffered from feelings of depression, loneliness, even suicide. However, as his art developed and his love of gardening led to the glories of his Giverny garden, his humor, insight and love of life are revealed.
“I, Claude Monet” is a fresh and intimate cinematic exploration of some of the most loved and iconic scenes in western art. Tickets are $15 Adult, $13 LT member, and $5 Youth 18 and under and are available through the theater office at 2 Theater Street or at the box office starting at 6 p.m. on the day of the screening. Additional information can be found at lcct.org or by calling the theater at 563-3424.
